Wira Desk v0.1.5: GPL-3.0 License and a Clearer Key Check

Now GPL-3.0-only, and the Key Check diagnostic stopped pointing users at the wrong troubleshooting step.

License Transition to GPL-3.0-only

Wira Desk was MIT until this release. The Settings window is built with Slint, which is offered under a choice of licenses: a royalty-free tier with conditions, a paid commercial tier, and GPL-3.0-only. From this version Slint is consumed under its GPL branch, and adopting that branch means the whole program is GPL-3.0-only.

This was not an ideological posture on software freedom. It was the honest consequence of a toolkit choice, removing the mandatory telemetry and disclosure the royalty-free tier required.

What this changes for you: nothing during everyday operation. The GPL puts zero conditions on running a program. Conditions attach only to distribution. Our plain-language license reading is available here.

The Key Check Diagnostic Stopped Conflating Two Problems

Settings has a Key Check diagnostic: press a key combination and it tells you whether the daemon received it. Before this release it had two states, and one of them was overloaded.

A chord swallowed by another program’s keyboard hook and a daemon that was not running both showed “Daemon Not Running”. Those require completely different remediation (one is an external software conflict to resolve, the other is a process to start), and the message frequently pointed users toward restarting a daemon that was never at fault.

They are now diagnosed and reported separately.
