License

A plain-language reading of GPL-3.0-only: what you may do with Wira Desk, and the two conditions that attach only to passing it on.

In effect since 28 September 2026 · applies to Wira Desk 0.3.0 · the software's governing text is LICENSE in the repository; this explanatory page is a translation of the Indonesian original

This is an English translation of the Indonesian original. If the two differ in interpretation, the Indonesian text prevails.

Wira Desk is published by Wira Delta Indonesia under the GNU General Public License, version 3, only (GPL-3.0-only). The license text that governs is the LICENSE file in the Wira Desk repository, which is also installed as LICENSE.txt in the installation folder. That text is in English, and only that official text applies. No translation of the GPL, including the explanation on this page, replaces it.

This page is a reading of that license, written to save you opening it. Where this page and the license disagree, the license wins.

1. Using It

You may run Wira Desk for any purpose, including paid work, on as many computers as you like, in a company of any size. There is no fee, no registration, no seat count, and no separate commercial license to buy. The GPL puts no conditions at all on running a program.

Nothing you do with the app becomes GPL by association. The license covers Wira Desk's own code, not the documents you had open, not the windows it moved, and not the work you did while Wira Desk was running.

2. Changing It and Passing It On

You may read the source code, modify it, and give copies to anyone. Two conditions apply, and both apply only when you distribute a copy, that is, give it to someone else:

  • A copy you hand on, modified or not, stays under GPL-3.0-only.
  • Whoever receives it must be able to get the corresponding source code, your changes included.

Modifying a copy for your own use, or for use inside your own organization, is not distribution and triggers neither condition.

3. Why GPL and Not MIT

Wira Desk was licensed under MIT up to version 0.1.4, and has been licensed under GPL-3.0-only since version 0.1.5. The Settings window is built with Slint, which is offered under a choice of licenses: a royalty-free one with conditions, a paid commercial one, and GPL-3.0-only. Wira Desk takes the GPL option, and taking it means the whole program is GPL-3.0-only.

The change was not a position on software freedom. It was the honest consequence of a toolkit choice, recorded in the CHANGELOG on the release that made it.

4. No Warranty

Sections 15 and 16 of the license disclaim all warranty and all liability, and here they are not boilerplate: Wira Desk is still below version 1.0, it installs global keyboard and mouse hooks, and it moves your windows around. This software comes as is.

If that is not a risk you can take on a particular computer, do not install Wira Desk on that computer. The Wira Desk Security Policy says what the risks actually are.

5. Third-Party Code

Wira Desk uses a large number of Rust libraries, nearly all of them MIT or Apache-2.0. NOTICE in the repository lists the third-party licenses: every dependency, with its version and license. The same file is installed as NOTICE.txt in the installation folder.

Continuous integration runs cargo-deny on every change, and the build fails if a dependency arrives with a license outside the allowed list. So a dependency under another license cannot come in unnoticed.

6. The Name and the Icon

The GPL grants rights over code. It says nothing about names or logos, and it does not oblige Wira Delta Indonesia to hand over either. If you publish a modified build, give it your own name and your own icon, so that the people using it know whom to ask when something goes wrong.

This clause applies to this explanatory page only. The GPL-3.0 text in LICENSE remains the official English text, and no translation of it applies.
