Wira Desk v0.1.0: A Local-First Workspace Manager Engineered in Rust

The first version of a local-first window manager engineered in Rust after a year of private development.

Wira Desk began with one habit that did not survive a move from macOS to Windows: same-app window cycling. Alt+Tab does not serve that workflow well: it groups every running application into a single global list. Wira Desk fills that gap with a clean, native local-first tool.

Core Capabilities in v0.1.0

  • Same-application window cycling, scoped to the active monitor and virtual desktop.
  • Overlapping stack window arrangement with a configurable width ratio.
  • Settings interface with live chord diagnostics and guided tutorial.
  • Optional launch on Windows sign-in configured via native Windows task scheduler.
  • Daily update checker, enabled by default with complete opt-out toggle.
  • A per-machine installer, published with SHA-256 checksums.
  • Installation through winget, as a second channel alongside the installer.

Architectural Integrity & Telemetry Discipline

Wira Desk transmits zero user metrics, window titles, or behavioral telemetry. All configuration state remains strictly local in the user profile directory. Network activity is limited strictly to checking for new releases when enabled.
