Configuration & Admin

Fit the service form to your liturgy, test the matching rules, manage flyers, and back up your data.

Written for WorshipDeck 0.1.1

Service form fields

Churches order their services differently, so the service form is not fixed:

  • Go to Admin → Liturgy Schema to add, rename, or reorder service sections, for example Call to Worship, Tithes and Offerings, Children's Story, or Benediction.
  • Choose each field's type: single-line text, multi-line notes, hymn selector, or flyer image. You can also set field groups and input lengths.
  • Set the default song set for hymn fields.
The only hymnal bundled with WorshipDeck is the Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal, in English.

Matching Rules and the Sandbox

Each predefined field of the service form has a text pattern, a regular expression, that recognizes its line in an order of service: the opening song, the verse reading, the sermon, and so on. Test the patterns on real text before a service depends on them:

  1. Paste Sample Text

Paste text from one of your church's past orders of service into the Live Testing Sandbox.

  2. Check the Result

The sandbox lists the fields it extracted, the song numbers it found, and the lines it could not place.

The sandbox runs separately from your data. Testing a pattern does not change any saved service or database record.

Webhook and Telegram Intake

Sending an order of service to WorshipDeck from Telegram or a script, through a webhook, is coming soon. It is switched off in this release. Until then, paste the order of service into the service form.

Default Backgrounds

The Background Library holds every image an administrator has added. Instead of one background shared by every slide type, two defaults can be set:

  • Song-Set default. The background a song's slides fall back to when its song set does not set its own.
  • General default. The background liturgy and scripture slides fall back to.

Set either one from Admin → Backgrounds, next to an image in the library.

Announcement Flyers

Announcement flyers are images you show on the congregation screen, for example before the service starts:

  • Upload flyers into sets that you keep and reuse from week to week.
  • The operator starts the loop from the console, and the set plays one flyer after another on the congregation screen until the loop is turned off. There is no timed start.
  • Uploaded flyers are stored on the computer, next to the database (see Backups and data files).

Backups and data files

All WorshipDeck data is stored on your computer:

  • Database. ./data.db next to the server by default (or the path in DB_PATH), or %LocalAppData%\WorshipDeck\data.db with the experimental desktop installer.
  • Uploaded flyers. %LocalAppData%\WorshipDeck\data\uploads\.

To back up, close WorshipDeck, then copy data.db and the uploads/ folder to an external disk or an encrypted USB drive. To restore, copy both back to the same place.

Data Sync (experimental) lets an administrator push or pull services, announcements, backgrounds, and layouts between two WorshipDeck servers your church controls. Syncing with a different instance means the admin signs in to that instance first, with an admin account there; the sign-in session is held only in memory and never stored. A server accepts sync only from an address listed in SYNC_ALLOWED_ORIGINS. Keep your own backups even if you use it. The same Sync screen also has Factory Reset, which permanently deletes all service content and uploaded files (accounts, settings, and fonts are kept) after you type factory reset to confirm.

Fonts

Fonts must allow embedding, because the PowerPoint export embeds them in the file:

  • Install only fonts whose license allows embedding, such as fonts under the SIL Open Font License or Apache 2.0.
  • The font manager in Admin → Fonts checks that each font permits TrueType embedding before it can be used in a PowerPoint export.
